Looking back on our totem poles
Room 10 Environmental Art - Term 3 2015
![]() |
| First we worked in groups and designed our totem poles. |
![]() | ||
Aisea's group wanted to make a key star to represent the importance of Mana.
|
![]() |
| After tracing our letters onto wood we used the jigsaw to cut them out. This was very tricky! |
![]() |
| Some of us used the sander to sand the letters... |
![]() |
| Some of us had to sand the tricky parts without a machine... |
![]() |
| It felt like the sanding went on forever. |
![]() |
| Each letter got a layer of glue to strengthen in. |
![]() |
| Each letter got 2 layers of undercoat. |
We practiced how to paint on some old poles.
Then the painting started...
Each group had to follow their plan step by step.

| Emily's group chose to add tiles to their letters to make it stand out. |
![]() |
| Daelyn's group used keys to show that Aroha is the key to everything. |
![]() |
| Aisea's group wanted rainbows to represent our school logo. |

Ronak learns about being Cybersmart.
I learnt how to use Google Draw. I can take a snapshot and insert it in Google Draw. I can also insert different shapes and write in them. And I also learnt to crop my photo. And I know how to be Cybersmart.

Crichton and the Black Rhino
The black rhino is a common type of rhino. It has become very rare. It is nearly extinct because people are hunting them for their horns. It has the body of a big dog. It's horns are pointed at the top and sticks out from the middle of its nose.
Riley learns about The Extinct Dodo
The Extinct Dodo
The extinct Dodo is a small bird but they are very extinct because people killed them.
A Dodo has a body of a small bird and has tiny legs. The legs are so small and pointed at the ground and sticks out. Typically most are the prettiest of colours which shows off brown and black fur. Furthermore most had a small beak made out of bone and their wings consisted of the furriest wings. As the Dodo moved it left tiny footprints.
❤️While many dodos were found in a native island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean it is thought that they are very extinct and are not seen now. When they lived they dreamed under leaves or lay curled up on the beach. However at night the Dodo got killed. If you are lucky you can find a fossil of it. Remember to take some roots as it is the Dodos favourite food. ☺
Dodos have became extinct 1600 years ago. In the main they lived on shellfish by the Indian Ocean in Mauritius. However they could also be tempted with crabs. Additionally some liked to eat bulbs. People had to be careful when they were around Dodos as they could be scared!
Unfortunately because Dodos are dead this has meant they have been killed by people and animals. Over the years so many Dodos have been killed that means today I can't see one in real life.

Daytona's Storyboard
I learnt to use the online Storyboard programme to make my storyboard. I made different stories in the different cells. I like the ghost at the movie in cell 1. Cell 2 tells the story of the disco dogs and cell 3 shows my friends getting ready for sport.
