Preserving meat without a fridge or freezer....
We were learning about what life was like without electricity and decided that preserving meat must have been hard. We learned that the people dried their meat, so it could last longer. Further, that some countries still dry their meat as a delicacy, e.g. in South Africa and they call it Biltong, while we in NZ call it Beef Jerky. We made our own dried meat and had a go at tasting it. Most children loved it, although there were about 4 children that did not like the taste of it. But all in all, a good experience, and great writing that resulted because of it.
